The following information is for your benefit. Here you will find answers to many of the questions that patients ask about Laser Skin Rejuvenation:
WHY SHOULD I HAVE LASER SKIN REJUVENATION?
You may want to consider laser skin resurfacing if you have fine or course wrinkles of the skin - usually on the face, if you have uneven skin surface as a result of scarring acne or small skin growths, or if you have areas of hyperpigmentation (age spots).
WHAT IS THE INTENDED RESULT OF LASER SKIN REJUVENATION?
Following laser skin rejuvenation your skin should have a smoother, more youthful appearance with more uniform color. The laser procedure also tightens the skin.
HOW IS THE LASER SKIN RESURFACING PROCEDURE DONE?
The procedure is usually done on an outpatient basis either in the office or at a local ambulatory center. The pulsed laser removes the superficial layers of the skin. The advantage of the laser is that the depth of treatment is extremely controlled and predictable.
WHAT TYPE OF ANESTHESIA IS USED DURING LASER SKIN RESURFACING?
Depending upon the area being treated, the procedure can be done using local sedation and local or general anesthesia.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING LASER SKIN TREATMENT?
Prior to the procedure you will be well prepared by your doctor and his nurse on your proper care following laser treatment. You will be sent home with written instruction on your follow-up care with prescriptions for infection control and pain management. Depending on location, the treated areas are covered with a tape like covering or with ointment. The treatment postoperatively will prevent formation of a crust or scab. Healing will be complete in 7 - 10 days.
WHEN CAN I WEAR MY MAKEUP FOLLOWING LASER SKIN RESURFACING?
Makeup can be worn once healing is complete (7-10 days). Redness (pink color) will usually last from 1 to 6 months depending upon what type of laser is used. We can instruct you as to how to camouflage the pinkness of your skin with makeup. The determination of which type of laser application is best for you will be made at the time of consultation.
CAN I HAVE LASER RESURFACING DONE AT THE SAME TIME AS OTHER COSMETIC FACIAL SURGERY?
Yes, other facial procedures such as blepharoplasty (eyelid lift), facelift, rhinoplasty, cheek implants, etc. can be performed at the same time.
