Ear Shaping Plastic Surgery in Hollywood, Florida
The following information is for your benefit. Here you will find answers to many of the questions that patients ask about Ear Pinning.
WHY SHOULD I HAVE EAR PINNING?
If you have ears that stick out too far from the side of your head or if the ears have an unusual or undesirable shape you may want to consider ear pinning. The procedure is appropriate beginning at age 5 or 6 or at any time thereafter.
WHAT IS THE INTENDED RESULT OF OTOPLASTY?
Following ear pinning surgery your ears should have more normal folds and shape with normal protrusion from the side of the head.
DOES EAR PINNING SURGERY REQUIRE HOSPITALIZATION?
No. The ear shaping operation is usually performed on an outpatient basis either at the office or in an ambulatory center surgical.
WHAT TYPE OF ANESTHESIA WILL BE USED DURING OTOPLASTY SURGERY?
Ear Pinning surgery is usually performed under sedation and local or general anesthesia, which is given by an expert anesthesiologist. These services will be provided by the facility where your surgery is performed and the fee for this service will be billed separately.
HOW LONG DOES THE EAR SHAPING OPERATION TAKE?
The length of otoplasty surgery typically runs approximately 2 hours.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER OTOPLASTY SURGERY?
The ears are usually bandaged with a dressing that wraps around the head in a turban-like fashion for several days. Initial mild postoperative discomfort is easily controlled with oral medication. Usually, a thin stocking cap or head band is worn at night for 3 weeks after the first dressing is removed to protect the ears.
HOW SOON FOLLOWING EAR SHAPING SURGERY CAN I RETURN TO MY NORMAL ACT IVIES?
The ears usually look “normal” within 10-20 days. You should be able to return to work or school (depending upon the nature of your work/school) within a few days to one week following the surgery. Contact sports should be avoided for about a month.
IS EAR PINNING COVERED BY INSURANCE?
The otoplasty procedure is usually not covered by insurance. However, our staff can assist you in making that determination.
