Breast Reduction Plastic Surgery in Hollywood, Florida
The following information is for your benefit. Here you will find answers to many of the questions that patients ask about breast reduction surgery.
WHY SHOULD I HAVE BREAST REDUCTION SURGERY?
If you have large, heavy breasts, which may be the cause of breathing difficulties, back, shoulder and neck pain, poor posture, bra-strap indentations and chafing under the breast, reduction surgery may afford the relief you are seeking.
You may want to consider breast reduction surgery if you have large, heavy breasts, which may decrease a sense of attractiveness and self-confidence. If large breasts interfere with normal daily activities or with exercise breast reduction surgery may be the option you wish to consider alleviating these concern.
WHAT IS THE INTENDED RESULT OF BREAST REDUCTION SURGERY?
Following breast reduction surgery you should expect to have a more attractive contour and smaller breast size, freedom from health problems associated with excessively large breasts, and an improved self-image.
DOES BREAST REDUCTION SURGERY REQUIRE HOSPITALIZATION?
The breast reduction procedure is performed either on an outpatient basis at an ambulatory surgical care facility or in the hospital.
WHAT TYPE OF ANESTHESIA WILL BE USED DURING BREAST REDUCTION SURGERY?
Breast reduction surgery is always done under general anesthesia, which is given by an expert anesthesiologist. These services will be provided by the facility where your surgery is performed and the fee for this service will be billed separately.
HOW LONG DOES THE BREAST REDUCTION OPERATION TAKE?
The length of breast reduction surgery typically runs approximately 3 hours.
HOW IS THE BREAST REDUCTION PROCEDURE PERFORMED?
Incisions are made around the pigmented area (the nipple-areolar complex) and extend vertically below the nipple and in the fold under the breast. The nipple-areolar complex is moved upward to the desired location; excess breast tissue, fat, and skin are removed.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER BREAST REDUCTION SURGERY?
The incisions are covered with light dressings, and the breast are placed in a bra. The bra holds the breasts symmetrically during initial healing. Initial discomfort subsides daily and can be controlled with oral medication. Scars will usually fade in 6-12 months. You should know that surgery would probably reduce and possibly eliminate the ability to breast-feed. If this issue will affect you or any future plans, discuss it with your doctor at the time of consultation.
HOW SOON FOLLOWING BREAST REDUCTION SURGERY CAN I RETURN TO MY NORMAL ACTIVITIES?
Any type of strenuous activity can induce swelling and bleeding, especially during the first 10-14 days after surgery. Therefore, limit your exercise to walking during the first month. In general, guide your activities by your discomfort - that is, if an activity hurts, do not do it. If your job keeps you rather sedentary, you may feel well enough to return to work in 7-10 days. You will tire easily and you may want to limit your hours on your first few days back. One month after surgery, you may start easing yourself into your usual exercise routine. Remember; do not push yourself too quickly.
IS BREAST REDUCTION SURGERY COVERED BY INSURANCE?
This procedure is commonly covered by insurance though insurance criteria are becoming more and more restrictive. Our staff will assist you in obtaining pre authorization.
