Breast Enlargement Plastic Surgery in Hollywood, Florida

The following information is for your benefit. Here you will find answers to many of the questions that patients ask about breast enlargement.

WHY SHOULD I HAVE BREAST ENLARGEMENT?

Breast augmentation can improve your appearance, make buying clothes easier, and can end the need for padded bras. It may even improve your self-confidence.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT MY OUTCOME TO BE?

Breast size following surgery depends on how big an implant is used. In general, however, the size should be proportionate to the rest of the body. A petite woman will look overbalanced with very large breasts. A larger woman should have fuller breasts to match the rest of her figure. Eventual breast size is determined by the patient’s wishes and the surgeon’s clinical and aesthetic judgment. Each case is individual, and during your consultation we will discuss with you the most desirable appearance for your breasts and overall figure.

Breast enlargement cannot change your personality or improve a romantic relationship. The size of your breasts is only one among many factors contributing to your sense of femininity. While the foregoing may seem obvious, we mention it because some patients, through misinformation or misconceptions, feel that breast augmentation can effect a miraculous transformation. This is not so. Breast augmentation can only increase the size of your breasts.

HOW DOES THE DOCTOR DO THE BREAST ENLARGEMENT SURGERY?

Breast enlargement is achieved by surgically placing implants behind the breast and/or behind the chest wall muscles making the breasts look and feel larger. The scar can be minimal, particularly if the implant is placed using the latest technique, through the belly button.

WHAT TYPE OF BREAST IMPLANT WILL BE USED?

Women now have a choice of either silicone gel or saline breast implants. Click here to learn more about the differences between silicone gel and saline breast implants.

HOW LONG DOES THE BREAST ENLARGEMENT OPERATION TAKE?

The breast implant operation lasts on an average of one and half to two hours depending upon many factors that will be discussed with you at the time of your consultation.

DOES BREAST ENLARGEMENT REQUIRE HOSPITALIZATION?

Breast augmentation is done as an ambulatory surgery. You will need to have a friend or relative accompany you when you leave after the operation, remain with you overnight, and accompany you when you return to the office the day after surgery for a postoperative check.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER BREAST ENLARGEMENT SURGERY?

At the conclusion of the breast implant operation, small bandages are placed over the incisions and an ace bandage dressing will be wrapped around your chest. Plan to wear a bra continually for three weeks following surgery. You will be given a prescription for oral medication to help managed any discomfort or soreness for two to three days after surgery.

WHEN CAN I GO BACK TO WORK?

Most patients can return to work three to six days after breast enlargement surgery, depending upon the type of work that you do. Most daily activities can be resumed at this time. You may not drive for one week after surgery. Heavy lifting should not be done for three weeks. Tennis, jogging, and other sports can usually be resumed three weeks following surgery.

CAN I STILL GET MY MAMMOGRAM DONE?

Mammography (xray of the breast) can detect some very small cancers, which may not be discovered by physical examination. The American Cancer Society now recommends yearly mammography for women over 40. Breast augmentation probably reduces the amount of breast tissue, which can be seen on mammography, and after augmentation special techniques and extra views will be required for optimal visualization of breast tissue. Women should have mammography with a physician or technician who is familiar with these techniques. “Shopping center” type screening clinics should be avoided.

CAN A BREAST IMPLANT BREAK?

Excessive force applied to the implants can cause breakage. Generally, such force is well beyond what one would experience in daily activities or sports. One can participate in tennis, horseback riding, volleyball, etc. without fear of harming the implants. Spontaneous leakage of saline causing deflation of implants has occurred necessitating replacement of the implants. This is a very rare occurrence with the new implants. However; should breakage occur, the saline solution within saline implants is considered harmless and can be absorbed by the body without fear of ill effects; silicone implants are made of a cohesive gel that holds together even if the shell is ruptured.
